About the Briefs
These guidelines were produced by the Pro-Poor Tourism Partnership and the Caribbean Tourism Organisation with funding from the Travel Foundation, and in collaboration with a range of partners.
The purpose of these good practice guidelines is to assist tourism companies in the Caribbean to to contribute more to the local economy. The briefs contain practical tips on what companies (of various sizes and types) and support agencies can do. They also contain many examples drawn from the Caribbean and Latin America.

Guidelines for the Dominican Republic (PDF, 245 KB)
These guidelines produced in mid 2005 were written specifically for hotels in the Dominican Republic in partnership with Asonahores. This was the first phase of the project. A training workshop was held in the Dominican Republic on 8th July, bringing together resort managers, hoteliers, restaurateurs, ground handlers and other key stakeholders. For details of the workshop and presentations given click here
The project
The objective of this project was to increase the development benefits of tourism in the Caribbean by providing practical guidance and training for tourism providers on how they can enhance their local development impact and linkages with local businesses and communities.
The project focused initially on tourism businesses in the Dominican Republic, and then on guidelines for the wider industry in other Caribbean destinations.
